Mr. Gardiner is no
stranger to beauty pageants in The Bahamas. His grandmother the late
Doris Jane Brown-Saunders and family organized the Miss Commonwealth
Bahamas Beauty Pageant for over thirty years. During his nine-year
tenure of the Miss Commonwealth Bahamas Beauty Pageant, Miss Bimini,
Jody Weech placed in the top 10 and was crowned Continental Queen of
Beauty for the Caribbean in the 1992 Miss World contest held at Sun
City in South Africa.
Doug's
extracurricular activities are numerous but he enjoys music,
theatre, meeting people, experiencing different cultures, traveling
and most all poetry. An avid published poetry writer, he won the
Editor's Award for the National Poetry Society of America in 1995.
He's also had the opportunity to produce and direct the 1995
production of "Weddings For Us" bridal show in Atlanta,
Georgia. "Weddings For Us" is the largest Afro-American
bridal extravaganza in the United States.
Mr. Gardiner is an
executive at The Solomon Group of Companies, the largest Apparel
Company in The Bahamas. He's also the general manager and buyer for
Faconnable Men and Ladies Boutique and acts as a consultant with The
Body Shop. Mr. Gardiner, also is a member of the Kiwanis Club of
Nassau, Executive Advisor for the Infinity Junior Achievement Group
and also acts as the public relations advisor to St.Thomas More
Parish.
Mr. Gardiner has a
twelve-year old son, Anthony Doug Gardiner and an adopted daughter
Paris Caroline.
