1. Why did you join the Miss. Bahamas Universe competition?
I joined the Miss Bahamas Universe competition because I realized that it would afford me the opportunity of becoming an influential voice on major issues affecting our country. Also, it would allow me to be in a position where I can display exemplary conduct that can inspire others. In addition, becoming Miss. Bahamas Universe would allow me to become a global ambassador who would represent my country with dignity, showcase the rich and unique culture and heritage of my country and to show others why it is truly better in The Bahamas.
2. If you were to become Miss. Bahamas Universe 2009, what would be the first thing you would do?
The first thing I would do as Miss. Bahamas Universe 2009 is show my gratitude to all of the Bahamian people who supported me by immediately putting a plan in place to visit as many schools as possible to speak to young Bahamian people on the importance of a sound education.
3. What is the most unique or unusual thing that has ever happened to you in your life?
The most unique thing that has ever happened in my life is being in the middle of bomb scares while visiting New Delhi, India last year. That experience taught me the importance of pushing myself to trying new and unexpected things, one of which is entering this pageant.
4. Do you think the swimsuit contest at beauty pageants degrades women?
No, I do not think the swimsuit contest at beauty pageants degrades women because of the following reasons:
1. It allows women to display and be proud of the results of being disciplined and hardworking enough to practice healthy habits in order to remain fit.
2. It provides a forum for women to publicly and tastefully display and be recognized for their natural beauty.
3. It helps women to become role models for younger girls who may be struggling with their self image or self esteem by showing them how to carry themselves confidently, gracefully, unashamedly and with poise.
5. Give an idea of what your national costume would be and what it represents.
My national costume has a naturalistic resonance. It fuses beautiful elements of the traditional Junkanoo costume with the gracefulness of our national bird that is the flamingo. It represents the strength and resilience of this bird which is making a comeback in its numbers and also represents these characteristics which are deeply ingrained in the spirit of our people.
6. What are the three most important things that you would like to do as Miss. Bahamas 2009?
As Miss. Bahamas 2009 my first priority would be to inculcate in the youths of The Bahamas the importance of a sound education. Having reaped the benefits of a sound education myself and being a passionate educator who enjoys disseminating knowledge to our youths, I would strive to convince young people in The Bahamas to value education. Promoting a more health conscious Bahamas would be my second priority because being Miss. Bahamas 2009 would give me an excellent platform on which to not only display the benefits of practicing a healthy lifestyle but to share with my fellow Bahamians how they too can achieve the results of such a lifestyle. Advancing clean-up campaigns and initiatives to beautify our country would be my third priority.
7. If you had to reside on one of the family islands in the Bahamas, which would it be and why?
If I had to reside on one of the family islands in The Bahamas it would be Inagua as a park ranger because I am deeply interested in eco-tourism and the preservation of the wildlife in Inagua is important to me.
8. What is your favorite color and why?
My favorite color is turquoise because it causes me to relax; and looking at it reminds me of the color of our beautiful ocean and sky whenever I am away from my country.
9. Tell viewers a little bit about The Bahamas and why you love it so.
The Bahamas has a rich culture, unique heritage and beautiful people who are friendliest people on earth. In addition, the food of The Bahamas is the best you will find in the world and the islands of The Bahamas each have their own unique tourist attractions. I have traveled to many places around the world but I love the Bahamas because I know that living here is like living in paradise. Every day I wake up knowing I will be safe; and I am excited about having clean beautiful waters and a clean atmosphere surrounding me. |
