WHY DID YOU JOIN THE MISS BAHAMAS UNIVERSE COMPETITION?
I joined the pageant to use the opportunity of the title to fulfill my life’s purpose, which entails, helping the helpless to receive a stable and better quality of life, which will result in a more prosperous country.
IF YOU WERE TO BECOME MISS BAHAMAS 2009, WHAT WOULD BE THE FIRST THING THAT YOU WOULD DO?
The first thing that I would do, is meet with the Department of Social Services, Ministry of Education and all related individuals, to initiate the planning of my platform.
WHAT IS THE MOST UNIQUE OR UNUSUAL THING THAT HAS HAPPEN TO YOU IN YOUR LIFE?
In Costa Rica, I found my calling, actually, God gave me a wake-up call. It came very clear to me. In obedience, I diverted from the path I was headed, and followed His voice. It was a very emotional and breathtaking experience for me. To know what your purpose is in life, and at such an early stage in life, is amazing!
DO YOU THINK THE SWIMSUIT CONTEST AT BEAUTY PAGEANTS DEGRADES WOMEN?
No, I do not think the swimsuit competition degrades women, as long as the purpose for which the competition is held, and the manner in which it is held, is respectable, honorable and for the advancement and development of the contestant. Women were created to be honored, respected and admired. It is our job to uphold standards in our lives, which entitles us to such respect, honor and admiration.
GIVE AN IDEA OF WHAT YOUR NATIONAL COSTUME WILL BE AND WHAT DOES IT REPRESENTS?
My costume will represent the vibrancy, strength and diversity of The Bahamas.
WHAT ARE THE THREE MOST IMPORTANT THINGS THAT YOU WOULD LIKE TO DO AS MISS BAHAMAS 2009?
- Temporary Adoption and family assistance program – TAP
- Foreign Language Program – I feel that students should be able to read literature, hold a fluent conversation, and write at an advanced level in at least 2 languages in addition to their native language, upon completion of high school. This will strengthen our country not only in the form of having a more educated citizenry, but stronger international relations.
- Healthy Eaters, Healthy Heart Program – The cause of many illnesses that we suffer from in our older years, stems from the way we ate in our younger years. Let’s think of our little ones, and replace those greasy hamburgers, chicken and fries, with fresh fruits, vegetables and healthily prepared meals, and educate them on the importance of healthy eating and a healthy lifestyle, for a healthier Bahamas.
IF YOU HAD TO RESIDE ON ONE OF THE FAMILY ISLANDS IN THE BAHAMAS, WHICH WOULD IT BE AND WHY?
It would be Acklins Island. Acklins is one of the islands further away from the Bahamas’ capital, with very shallow waters that serve great for bone fishing, but not for swimming. The terrain is hilly and not very smooth and it is narrow in width. These features make it less likely to be exploited and destroyed by overpopulation and overdevelopment. The island that I spend the rest of my life on would have to have all the characteristics of a “true island”, unmarked and unblemished. I feel that this would be one of the islands to cling firmly to its natural state.
WHAT IS YOUR FAVORITE COLOR AND WHY?
I’ve always been a girly girl, and thought pink was my favourite colour, but as I got older, I decided to taste The Rainbow!
TELL VIEWERS A LITTLE ABOUT THE BAHAMAS AND WHY YOU LOVE IT SO!
I love The Bahamas because it encompasses every quality that a “Home Land” should. There is that comfort of a wonderful climate, all-year round, there is a natural landscape, and there is variety. Hence you can change the scenery. How? Hop on the Bohengy and see if you won’t end up in another world. In addition, all the perks of New York City Shopping are right here. Not to mention 5-star, world-class dining, sushi, French Pastries or Italian dishes, we have it all; and as it echoes all over the nation, “it is better in The Bahamas”. Finally, the people! Warm smiles and hugs or even handshakes, the smooth and mellow melodies of the Bahamian accents, and the tranquil disposition of our actions, accompany you from the moment you arrive, until the very moment that you leave. For this reason, a trip to The Bahamas does not leave a memory on your mind; it leaves a warm feeling in your heart! The Bahamas is “Home” to all! |
