WHY DID YOU JOIN THE MISS BAHAMAS UNIVERSE COMPETITION?
I joined the Miss Bahamas Universe Competition because locally I would be a positive role model for females and internationally I would be an excellent ambassador for the Bahamas.
IF YOU WERE TO BECOME MISS BAHAMAS 2009, WHAT WOULD BE THE FIRST THING THAT YOU WOULD DO?
If I were to become Miss Bahamas Universe I would first pause to give thanks to the Almighty God and all who supported me, then I would request a blessing on my reign from my Pastor.
WHAT IS THE MOST UNIQUE OR UNUSUAL THING THAT HAS HAPPENED TO YOU IN YOUR LIFE?
Thus far, I have been spared from death two times. At birth, I was being choked by my umbilical cord, during my childhood, the bicycle that I was riding was rolled over by a drunken driver. Yet I am still here as proof of the awesome destiny that lies ahead of me.
DO YOU THINK THE SWIMSUIT CONTEST AT BEAUTY PAGEANTS DEGRADES WOMEN?
Physical beauty is one aspect of a woman's beauty; therefore, it would almost be nonsensical to have a beauty pageant without a segment that allows the women to showcase their physical beauty.
GIVE AN IDEA OF WHAT YOUR NATIONAL COSTUME WILL BE AND WHAT DOES IT REPRESENTS?
My national costume will depict all things Bahamian from every possible aspect; it is designed to give those who see it a glimpse into what it is like to be a Bahamian, from the history to our geographic make up.
WHAT ARE THE THREE MOST IMPORTANT THINGS THAT YOU WOULD LIKE TO DO AS MISS BAHAMAS 2009?
I would like to visit high schools and seek to educate students on the importance of protecting our natural resources. Additionally, I would like to speak to young persons, particularly females, on the importance of abstinence and HIV & AIDS awareness. Thirdly, as I travel throughout the world, I would do my best to make the Bahamian people proud.
IF YOU HAD TO RESIDE ON ONE OF THE FAMILY ISLANDS IN THE BAHAMAS, WHICH WOULD IT BE AND WHY?
I would choose the island of San Salvador because it is rich in history as it is the landing place of Christopher Columbus in 1492. Additionally, the virtually undisturbed marine ecosystems provide great educational opportunities, and I am would like to join the many international students who travel to the island to learn more about our coastal systems and marine life.
WHAT IS YOUR FAVORITE COLOR AND WHY?
My favorite color is orange because it reminds me of a beautiful Bahamian sunset.
TELL VIEWERS A LITTLE ABOUT THE BAHAMAS AND WHY YOU LOVE IT SO!
The Bahamas - God's vacation spot! The Bahamas is made up of over 700 unique islands and cays, each having their own special qualities that set them apart. This archipelago is able to provide each person with an experience unlike any other and I am most certain that there is something to appeal and appease the most persnickety traveler.
I am also a big fan of Bahamian food. The combination of spicy and savory foods somehow seems to produce the most amazing experience for anyone's taste buds. I guarantee you that one taste will definitely have you hooked.
The Bahamian experience, in my opinion, is incomplete without experiencing junkanoo. Junkanoo is our cultural celebration held on Boxing and New Year's Days. Held during the wee hours of the morning, there is nothing quite like feeling the vibrations of the goat skin drums in your body and watching the magnificent works of art parade before your eyes.
Alas, the warm and friendly Bahamian people. Any Bahamian can usually be found wearing a welcoming smile on their face; ready and willing to lend a hand as needed – I can truly say that I love my Bahamian people and My Bahamas. |
